Mission Statement

The mission of the South Kingstown School Department is to educate the children of South Kingstown in partnership with families and community, so that each student becomes a responsible individual who possesses the knowledge and skills for productive citizenship.

Staff, students, parents and the community will work together and communicate to provide a positive, safe, caring environment for all to learn and grow. We believe our commitment to education is better met through shared goals, participatory decision making and a strong sense of trust which will positively influence students’ educational outcomes.

GOALS 2007-2008

• All students, staff and parents will use Clear Expectations and the Recognition of Accomplishment to build a Peaceful Community at Wakefield School through the use of School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
•  All students, staff and parents will effectively communicate and collaborate to deepen Academic Rigor to increase student achievement.
• All staff will work to create a Professional Learning Community in which the Principles of Learning are evident. Forums for implementation include awareness at Faculty Meetings, Grade Level Meetings, Team Meetings and Professional Development Meetings. Models of implementation include Study Groups, Looking at Student Work, Task Analysis, Text and Book Discussions, Analyzing Data, Lab Classroom Lessons and visits, and Learning Walks
