Writing Prompts

Mode Specific Writing Prompts

1. Write about something that you can do really well. Be sure to use details and information that show how good you are at doing it.

 

2. Write about a place that you especially enjoy. Give a good description of it and explain why you like it.

 

3. Imagine that you exchange places for a day with an animal. Write about your day as that animal.

 

4. Write about a special memory. It might be a person, thing, an event or a place. Describe it and explain why you think it is such a special memory.

 

5. Write about an animal that you may have seen, read about or imagine. Give enough details so that your reader will understand why the animal is interesting to you.

 

6. Imagine that one day you woke up and you were as tall as a giraffe. Write a story about what would happen next.

 

7. Write about a magic carpet that could take you anywhere, to the past or future, or even to an imaginary place. Explain your exciting adventure.

 

8. Write about being another person for a short time. You might be someone you know, a character from a story, someone famous or someone who lived long ago. Tell about your time spent as that person.

 

9. Choose a special person you have met and write about her/him so your reader can understand why that person is special.

 

10. Write about something you enjoy doing. It could be something at school, at home, in your neighborhood or even a sport you are good at.
