June 12 – Hippie day, wear clothes that have a little twist of the 60s in it June 13 – Hawaiian day, wear anything that’s Hawaiian FIRST GRADE MUSICAL… Mrs. Stafford is looking for donations for the first grade musical. Items would need to be brought in by June 10. All items will be returned by the end of the school year. The following items would be greatly appreciated! - 30 thin sticks of dowels – approximately the size of a yard stick. - Plastic/artificial vegetables, ex. carrots, onions, potatoes, mushrooms, cabbage - Dog toys shaped like steaks - Bandanas Thank you!! CARES BBQ… CARES would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed time and energy to the children of South Kingstown in the classroom and out! Please join us for a BBQ on Friday, June 6th, from 5-7 pm at the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn on Matunuck School House Road. Don’t forget to RSVP (360-1304). Children welcome! See you there! ART NEWS… Thank you so much to Mrs. Mahoney, Mrs. Cobb, Mrs. Forrester, Mrs. Pendlebury, Ms. Azza, Mrs. McConnell, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Corpus, Mrs. Reardon, Mr. Brown, Ms. Camarena, Miss Rivas, Mrs. Nettik and Rae T. for helping out with the art show. I am truly appreciative of your hard work. It was a wonderful show. Thank you! ICE CREAM SOCIAL/BOOK FAIR/ART SHOW… The Ice Cream Social held last Thursday night at the school was a great night. The children and adults all seemed to have a wonderful time making their own sundaes and enjoying all the beautiful artwork on the walls. Thanks to all the teachers (and there were quite a lot of them), the principal, support staff and parents who helped scoop the ice cream and toppings. The kids really enjoyed seeing their teachers helping out at such a fun event. A special thanks to Doreen Carey for coordinating the Ice Cream Social, to Holly Harrington, our art teacher, for all her hard work setting up the beautiful art display and Patty Reardon and Dena Gonzalves for co-chairing the Book Fair. These events could not happen without the support of our school community. Thanks to all! BAND REHEARSAL… The Band will be rehearsing BEFORE school next Wednesday, June 11th, 8-8:30 am. FROM THE NURSE… I sent home a notice with your child if they have medication at school that needs to be picked up at the end of the year (please check their backpack). Also, there is a new med form for the next school year if your child will need the medication again. Please have the form filled out during the summer by your doctor (for prescription medication) or by a parent (for non-prescription meds) and return in September with the medication. If your child is moving on to the Middle School, you can use the same form and procedure. Any questions, feel free to call me. Also, from the Nurse Don’t miss the premier of the documentary film “Hidden in the Leaves” which is an educational film about Lyme Disease. It is directed by award-winning filmmaker Mary Healey Jamiel and produced by tick expert and URI professor, Tom Mather. It will be shown at Chafee Auditorium on the URI Kingston Campus on Wednesday, June 4th. For more information, go to www.TickEncounter.org Summer Wellness Fair: Saturday, June 7th, from 9-3 at the URI Campus. There will be a Tick Prevention Demonstration, vendors, sponsored dog walk, rock wall climbing and kids activities. The Fair is free and will be located behind the Ryan Center. PBIS… The following students were recognized for following the WKES Hawk’s Expectations. Congratulations to: Molly C., Ashley C., David D., Kyle N., Maya S., Tai M., Samantha K., Emilia D., Kyra N., Isabella M., Jackson C., Matthew M., Sam C, Joshua D., Briana M., Claire S., Danny L., Shylah J., Kyron W., Frank K., Oscar R.., Rachel C., Tristan R., Olivia S., Emma L., Kyle H., and Erich L. On Fridays we pull 5 names from all of those students who were recognized for the week and they are then able to pick a prize from our prize box. They were: Erich L., Kyle N., Emilia D., Samantha K. and Tai M. RHODE ISLAND VOLLEYBALL CAMP… Junior Day Camp Session 1 July 20-23 Session 2 July 24-27 In an effort to expose younger players to the sport of volleyball, the Junior Day Camp has been designed for boys and girls entering the 5th thru 8th grades. Campers will be assigned to courts according to their age, experience, and athletic ability. Campers will take part in TWO 2-2.5 hour sessions each day, for a total of 7 sessions, instructing campers on the latest age appropriate techniques and strategies. The fundamental skills involved in playing volleyball will be covered: serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, & digging. Camp Itinerary is available on our website. If the numbers warrant, campers will take part in tournament play on the last day. The cost for this camp is $240. There is a discount of $15 for campers who attend both sessions. Fee includes all Instruction & Lunch each day. Campers who register by June 15th are guaranteed to receive our 2008 Camp T-Shirt, Water Bottle & Neck Wallet. (Deadline extended for Day Campers ONLY.) Availability after June 15th is dependent upon our inventory as our order will have been placed. Camp will take place in the athletic facilities at the University of Rhode Island. Campers will dine on campus. Campers will be assigned a Head & Assistant Coach who will be responsible for them throughout the entire day.
