NATIVE AMERICAN ASSEMBLY…Thurs., 10:00 am
The West Kingston Elementary School Cultural Arts Committee is pleased to present to you a Native American assembly.  Thawn Harris, a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, will be providing us with a wonderful presentation of Native American storytelling, singing, dancing, and flute playing.  There will also be a question and answer period and hopefully, if time permits, Thawn will share with us some of the Narragansett Indian culture and Regalia.  Regalia is the clothing that tribes wear.  It is made up of many different materials depending on tribal location, seasons, and occasion.  Regalia is a very sacred and special part of Native American culture.  As a side note, you should NEVER touch someone’s Regalia without first asking permission.  This is thought to be a sign of disrespect and the Regalia will have to be cleansed and blessed against possible curses put on the wearer.
It is also possible that Mr. Harris will ask a few students to join him on stage to demonstrate a social dance!!!
This assembly will be very educational, fun and hopefully will be one that you will remember forever.
