CLASSROOM CONFIGURATIONS FOR 2007-08 SCHOOL YEAR…
Next year West Kingston School will have the following classes:
3          Kindergarten
3          Grade 1
3          Grade 2
2          Grade 3
2          Grade 4
1          Grade 3/4 Split
3          Grade 5
The split class will again have a full time teacher with an additional half time teacher assigned to the classroom.  The makeup of this class is heterogeneous, just as the other classes in the school, meaning there will be students of varied ability levels from both grades assigned to this classroom.  Low student to teacher ratio provides the opportunity for both enrichment and support for the students in the class.  Parents, students, and teachers alike, have found this to be a very positive environment for learning.
Parents of students assigned to the split classroom will be contacted by the school.  All other classroom assignments will be written on the report cards.

MOVING???
If you will be moving or know of another family that will be moving in or out of the West Kingston School area, please notify the school office.  It is important for us to have as accurate of information as possible when we are making students placements for next year.  Please call the school at 360-1130.

BICYCLE RIDING…
If you have a child wishes to ride his/her bicycle to school this spring, please contact the school office and request a special form to complete and return to the office.  Ministerial is a very busy road and students must use extreme caution if they are riding their bikes to school and we must have written confirmation that parents are aware the child is riding their bicycle to the school.

THANK YOU…
The staff and faculty want to thank the PTO and community for the special treatment we received last week during Teacher Appreciation week.  Everyone felt very special and very spoiled.
West Kingston School is indeed a very special community.  The care and support demonstrated by school families and staff provide a very nurturing and positive school experience for the students who attend West Kingston School.  It is a pleasure and honor to be the principal of this special school.
Nancy Nettik, Principal

FINAL REPORT CARDS…
All report cards will be kept until the last day of school, June 21st.  If for some reason your child will not be present on the last day of school, please leave a self-addressed stamped envelope at the office or plan to stop by the school between June 21st and June 29th to pick up final report cards.

CHORUS CONCERT…
June 5th @ 7:30 pm @ Matunuck Elem. School
The final CHORUS CONCERT will be a combined performance with the Matunuck School Chorus on Tuesday, June 5th at 7:30 pm.  Chorus members should plan to report to Matunuck Elementary School at 6:30 pm so that both schools may rehearse together.  Concert attire is WHITE on top, BLACK on the bottom.  If you need assistance in finding appropriate concert clothing, please let Ms. Toy know as soon as possible.
Directions to Matunuck School:  Follow Ministerial Road (Rte 110 South) to Rte 1.  Take U-turn to head NORTH on Rte. 1.  Follow Matunuck Beach Road exit.  School is on left.

SOX TOPS FOR KIDS…
The school has enrolled in a program where the school will receive 5 cents per Sox Tops caps which can be found on gallon, half-gallon, quart and pint bottles of Hood milk.
The program will run from now until October 31, 2007.  Please send your Sox Tops caps to the office.  If you can collect them over the summer and send them to the school in September, it would be very much appreciated.
Proceeds will be used to supplement the bus costs for field trips.

Volunteers Needed to Set Up/Take Down Art Work on June 7th
Please e-mail Holly Harrington, art teacher, @ hharrington@skschools.net if you are able to spend a little time in hanging up our children’s beautiful work to display for all to enjoy.  Many hands will definitely make this process much easier.  This is a great way to help make this activity a success!  Set up starts at 3:15 pm and breakdown starts at 8 pm.

Thank you, Nancy Santucci
The members of the current PTO board would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to our President, Nancy Santucci.  We’re not sure how many people remember, but last year our school was headed into summer vacation with no PTO board elected for the start of this current school year.  Nancy stepped up at the eleventh hour and encouraged others to as well.  In large part, due to her exhaustive efforts and unyielding commitment to our school, the PTO has thrived and experienced great success this year.  We thank her for all she’s done on her part to help make WKES a great place to learn and grow while having fun.

LOST & FOUND…
We have a multitude of items in our Lost and Found boxes.  We will have them on display the night of the Ice Cream Social.  Please stop by the tables and check it out!!  Anything not claimed will be donated to the Jonnycake Center over the summer.

CHARACTER ED…
The “Caring Heart” award was given to the following people:  Jensen T., Thomas C., Kassie J., Erin W., Jacob L., Samantha M., Ashanti M., and Isaiah D.  Thanks for doing your best to make West Kingston the best it can be!
