Scholarship Bulletin #1 South Kingstown H.S. Guidance Dept. Sept. 15, 2008
www.skschools.net
It is important for you to SAVE THIS BULLETIN for future reference. From this point on, scholarship information will be announced on the regular Senior Bulletin as soon as we receive it in our office. This particular bulletin contains a listing of the notices we have received so far this year.
All of the scholarship information we receive from various sources is available to you in the guidance suite. These materials include national, state and/or college- or organization-specific scholarships and will be announced in the bulletin as soon as we receive the information. Due to space constraints, each scholarship will be printed only once, so it is your responsibility to secure a copy of the weekly Senior Bulletin from your Advisory teacher (or in the guidance area if you are absent on a Monday, our regular distribution date).
The tall, five-drawer gray file cabinet on the left side of the back wall of the guidance suite houses all of the scholarships available to you, and often there are further details on the Scholarship Bulletin Boards. The local scholarship program will also be advertised in the bulletin later on in the winter (after we receive the new deadline dates). Last year there were at least 65 local scholarships for which there were application forms (some are done strictly by a selection committee where no application is required). Scholarship Bulletin #2, due out in late January, will have all of the details for applying for those scholarships. There will also be more information on the Local Scholarship Bulletin Board.
Also, please note that each of the scholarships that we advertise has an application deadline. These deadlines are firm; and if you are late submitting the application, you will not be considered, no matter how much you may need the funds. Last year we handled hundreds of scholarship applications. Please note that we require that any outside scholarship application you may have that requires a signature from us and/or transcript be submitted to us at least one week prior to the stated deadline date on the application in order to allow for processing and handling.
The responsibility for checking and adhering to any other outside scholarship deadlines lies with you, the student. You must also make us aware of specific deadline information such as that it must be "received by" or "postmarked by." Again, please save this bulletin for future reference.
Finally, please ask your parents/guardians to check to see if there are any workplace- or organization-membership scholarships for which you might qualify. We look forward to working with you and to making this process run smoothly. Scholarships available to you as of this date:
