2002-2006
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the South Kingstown School Department is to educate
the
children of South Kingstown in partnership with families and
community,
so that each student becomes a responsible individual who
possesses the
knowledge and skills for full productive citizenship.
BELIEF STATEMENT
v Every human
being has intrinsic worth and each individual must be provided opportunities to
become a life-longer learner.
v A well-balanced
development of mind, body and spirit is important so that the total individual
can flourish.
v All children
want to learn and do so in a variety of ways.
v Each student
will have the resource necessary to discover and develop his or her potential. They will (shall) be provided with equal
opportunity to develop, accept, and exercise personal responsibility.
v Collaboration
among diverse people builds and strengthens community.
v
It is the shared responsibility of family, students, school personnel,
and elected officials to work together to create a positive educational
environment.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE GOALS
GOAL 1: There will be continuous improvement:
a.
until all students can demonstrate skills necessary for full
productive citizenship
b.
until all students demonstrate proficiency in the district's
established curricula
c.
on the R.I. State Assessments in Mathematics, English/Language
Arts, Writing and Health:
o
Until all students have "Achieved the Standard*"
o
In the percentage of students who have "Achieved the Standard
with Honors*"
o
Until the percentage of minority students meets or exceeds the
percentage of majority students who have "Achieved the Standard*" and
"Achieved the Standard with Honors*".
d. until all students graduate from high
school.
GOAL 2: Such improvement will be demonstrated by data and shall
meet established benchmarks.

STRATEGIES
We will:
1.
develop and support rigorous and comprehensive standards-based
curricula demanding high performance from all students.
2.
actively involve all staff in Professional Development with the
goal of increasing student achievement.
3.
initiate and sustain partnerships with families, businesses,
municipal groups, local agencies and community members to enrich school
improvement efforts.
4.
ensure appropriate intervention and support services for all
students from preschool through high school graduation to maximize achievement
in all educational programs.
5.
provide equitable and appropriate resources for all students and
all schools.
6.
create a process to analyze and utilize data to measure the
success of each program supporting student achievement.
